Darcy Windover
There is something dazzling - beguiling even - about the music of Darcy Windover. Standing at the crossroads of Americana, roots-rock, folk and country, the Toronto-based singer/songwriter and admitted gear nerd is that rarest of musicians, one whose songs are at once instantly accessible yet utterly unique. His songs charge along like a freight train, while the ballads are heartfelt and anthemic. The grit and hope of Dylan, the rhythms of Neil Young, the melodic sensibility of Tom Petty and the driving style of the Rolling Stones are honoured in Windover’s songwriting and playing style.Witness Cope, Windover’s second full-length recording and first cut with his permanent band of Kevin Neal (pedal steel, vocals), Stacey Dowswell (vocals, piano, guitar), Kurt Nielsen (bass), and David MacDougall (drums, vocals). Produced by John Dinsmore (Lincoln County Social Club), Cope runs the emotional gamut from sorrow to joy, solitude to celebration with each song coalescing around Windover’s emotive voice and vivid lyrics. Darcy’s first solo record, Stones Bleed Honey, was released on October 8, 2015. The 11-song collection, produced by Aaron Comeau, features guest performances by Melanie Brulée, Sarah Burton, Paul Reddick and Kristen Bussandri. The release follows his debut EP Looking Back, Looking Forward an eight-song collection praised for its soaring vocals and soul-comforting sound. When not touring across Canada and doing solo shows, Darcy co-fronts The Ole Fashion, a toronto-area cover-band. Over the years, he has shared the stage with Kiefer Sutherland (with whom he toured Canada in 2019), The Tragically Hip, Joel Plaskett, David Usher and many others. When not on stage he also builds amplifiers and guitars, saluting the vintage 50’s and 60’s styles in his designs and earning the title of full on gear nerd. Supporting his healthy obsession with Gretsch, Gibson, Fender, Rickenbacker, Vox, etc., you can hear the same quality and precision in Darcy’s songs.
