David Atman
David Atman is a Francophone singer-songwriter, author and poet hailing from Montreal, Quebec. Part of the Quebec music scene for fifteen years, he played over 700 concerts in seven countries and booked over a thousand shows for local and touring artists under Emeute Productions. David’s first band released four independent EPs and opened for important artists like Patrick Watson, The Midway State, Wintersleep, Rasputina, Unexpect and Jet Set Satellite. After performing 200 shows the band called it quits – but not David.Since 2012, David has been at the forefront of the folk-prog quartet La Tragédie. The band received multiple grants to write and record two LPs, which awarded them airplay on community radio stations, a distribution contract with DEP Distributions, opening gigs for Quebec legends Michel Pagliaro and Mononc' Serge, and a TV performance in Ottawa. In October 2014, with the financial support of LOJIQ, La Tragédie goes on a European tour to play a dozen shows in twenty days. In 2016, with a new sponshorship from Godin Guitars, the band sets off to the US for a series of concerts. Subsequently, La Tragédie was noticed by Pop Riot Music, a Baltimore-based label, with whom they’ve been collaborating ever since. After releasing an EP and solo touring in Europe in 2017 and 2019, David is finally putting the final touches on his magnum opus: the novel “La gestion calculée de l’énergie” accompanied by La Tragédie’s “En décrochant Neptune,” a full length album. David’s novel was released by LDG Éditions (Toulouse, France) in 2020 and later released by two Swiss labels as a spoken word album. The band has since gained more notoriety, airplay and significant gigs, opening for Jeff Martin (The Tea Party) and Dennis Jaggard (Ten Foot Pole). La Tragédie keeps creative juices flowing by writing and releasing their best material to date: a self-titled album in 2022. The band is now heading back to the studio to record new material.
