Diogo Ramos
Diogo Ramos is a singer-songwriter deeply influenced by the Brazilian Tropicália movement. Born in São Paulo to a family from Bahia, he currently lives in Montreal. Having studied music, particularly guitar, since the age of 13 – Ramos has been working professionally for 25 years as a music producer, having released 20 albums between composition and production.In 2010, Ramos left Brazil to settle in Montreal where he obtained a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance from the University of Quebec in Montreal. He has made his mark on the Montreal music scene, collaborating with artists such as Djely Tapa, Bïa, Imposs, Boogát, Flavia Nascimento, Rommel Ribeiro, amongst others.2018 sees the release of Ramos’ conceptual album "Samba sans Frontières", where he pays tribute to his country of adoption through the interpretation of the works of Gilles Vigneault, Félix Leclerc, Pierre Perreault and his own compositions where Portuguese and French intertwine. His single Liberté je t’aime released in 2020 during the pandemic travel around the world. The year 2021 takes a new turn with the collaboration of several artists , who offer a mix of samba funk and electro hip-hop. In 2023, he released his new album Cabaça, a new concept that mixes electro-samba-funk. Cabaça is a celebration of sunshine, carnival and happiness; on the other hand, it is a political act and a tribute to the influence of artistic multiculturalism in Montreal.With this new album, Diogo Ramos proves to be one of the most promising names of the new generation of Brazilian musicians established in Montreal. Ramos received several awards at the MUZ Festival (Vision Diversity) - the main showcase of world music in Montreal 2023. Nomination for best world music album ADISQ 2023. Recipient of the Arts Council Research and Creation Grant and letters from Quebec (CALQ) 2021 and 2017. Diogo received the Cumplices 2019 prize from the MAI (Montreal Arts Interculturels).
